Accessing Higher Education Track
The Accessing Higher Education Track is designed to guide service members through the variety of decisions involved in choosing a degree completion program and preparing for the college admissions application process. During the pathway, participants will learn how to determine the appropriate college/university that satisfies career interests and goals, understand admissions criteria, and fund education through veterans’ education benefits, Federal Student Aid Program (FAFSA), grants, and scholarships. The military-to-civilian track is offered as a supplement to the Separation TRS.
All About Military Spouse Employment
Take the first step in getting your next job at our three-part All About Military Spouse Employment workshop! This one-day workshop will feature the following presentations: Military Spouse Employment Readiness & Resources, Breaking Down Barriers to Employment, and Marketing Your Volunteer Experience.
Boots to Business
Entrepreneurship and small business ownership is a key opportunity for service members and veterans as they transition to civilian life. This 2 day self-employment workshop is offered in collaboration among the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), the Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) at Syracuse University, and the Department of Defense. The workshop provides aspiring military-to-civilian entrepreneurs with the information they need in order to decide if self-employment is the right choice for them. Participants will learn how to evaluate applicable skills and personality traits needed for self-employment, identify types of business ownership, research the business market and competition, understand the importance of a business plan, and how to obtain financing.
Building Your Network: Uncover the Hidden Job Market
For many of us, networking is a daunting, even frightening process that leads to nothing but a lot of business cards in a drawer. This workshop is designed to help participants completely rethink the strategy in a way that even the most introverted among us can embrace, and explain how to bring that next job closer with each interaction.
The Capstone event is a required face-to-face meeting between unit Commanding Officers and their transitioning Marines to ensure all Career Readiness Standards (CRSs) have been met prior to leaving active duty. Capstone must take place no earlier than 120 days and no later than 90 days prior to your separation / retirement date. Please schedule an appointment with the Career Resource Management Center to have your CRSs and supporting documentation verified.
Career Exploration: Finding Your Focus
This workshop examines the necessity of developing and communicating a clear professional objective in order to get moving forward in the job search. Online assessments will be conducted during the instruction period to help participants gain clarity around their career goals, and also learn about market research techniques that can help to determine the best way forward.
Career Fair Strategies
This workshop is designed to teach strategies on effectively networking a career fair. Participants will learn how to properly prepare, research participating companies/organizations, develop the “right” questions to ask and how to select appropriate attire for a career fair.
Career Technical Training Track
The Career Technical Training Track is facilitated by the Department of Veterans Affairs and is designed to guide service members through the decision making process associated with choosing a career technical institution. During the workshop, participants will learn how to select a course of study that satisfies career interests and goals, understand the admissions criteria, and fund education through veterans education benefits. Instructors will provide participants with general detailed information about military-friendly career technical institutions, career/economic outlook statistics in various fields of study, and a benefit/cost analysis of the career field verses academic costs. The military-to-civilian track is offered as a supplement to the Separation TRS.
Cracking the Code to the Federal Hiring Process
Learn about the federal hiring process, and understand how to create a federal application package that will set you apart from the competition. This workshop is being taught by a former GS15 HR Manager from the Office of Personnel Management.
Create a Master Résumé
This workshop is designed to provide participants the information, direction, and time required to create a robust master resume draft. This is an experimental workshop that builds on the foundations provided in the Resume Overview class.
Disability Transitional Assistance Program (DTAP)
This workshop is designed to assist individuals seeking information on the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) program. Participants will gain a better understanding on vocational rehabilitation and employment services to help with job training, employment accommodations, resume development, and job seeking skills coaching. This program is a great opportunity for service members to get personalized counseling and support to help guide their career paths, ensure the most effective use of their VA benefits, and achieve their goals.

Being a veteran makes you a great candidate for franchise ownership. And there are many franchises that offer special incentives to veterans as part of the VetFran program.

Examine the various and most effective methods people are using to find work in today’s job market. Class participants will develop their own personal marketing plan, which will guide the job search efforts daily and keep us more focused and efficient.
Interviewing 101: The Secret to Becoming the Candidate
This workshop is designed to assist individuals in understanding the interview process. Participants learn how to communicate effectively and confidently during a job interview. Special emphasis will focus on how to successfully respond to challenging interview questions and situations. Learn techniques that will help you feel prepared and confident to meet your future employer.
Job Prep Crash Course
Take the first step in getting your next job at our three-part Job Prep Crash Course! This one-day workshop will feature the following presentations: Breaking Down Barriers to Employment, Resume Overview, and Interviewing 101: The Secret to Becoming THE Candidate.
This workshop provides participants with the information, direction, and time required to create a basic LinkedIn profile and begin using LinkedIn to aid in networking and job search.
Managing Your (My) Education Track
The MY Education Track assists service members in identifying the higher education requirements that support their personal career goals. The following topics will be covered: learning the basics, choosing a field of study, selecting an institution, gaining admission, and funding sources.
Marketing Your Volunteer Experience
This workshop is designed to assist military spouses who have volunteered as a way to give back to the community and are now looking to reenter the job market. Volunteer work is experience and it should be valued to the same standards as paid job experience. Participants will learn how to appropriately use their volunteer experience on a résumé and how to market those skill sets when searching for employment opportunities.
Marketing Yourself for a Second Career
This workshop is a three hour professional lecture provided by Military Officers Association of America (MOAA). The class is for officers and senior enlisted who plan to leave the service it the next one to five years. During the presentation you will learn about your competition for finding a job, perceptions civilian employers have of military personnel, developing a plan for your job search, resumes, cover letters, etc. Gain a valuable understanding of networking, penetrating the hidden job market, salary negotiations, benefits packages, and even how to deal with rejection.
Military Spouse Employment Readiness & Resources
This workshop is designed to inform military spouses on the importance of the employment programs and resources available through the Department of Defense and local commands.

Optimizing your LinkedIn Profile for your Job Search
This workshop provides participants with the information, direction, and time required to create a ROBUST LinkedIn profile and begin using LinkedIn to aid in networking and job search. Participants will review security and privacy settings, refine LinkedIn profile content, search for jobs, become active on LinkedIn and connect with others.
Personal Readiness Seminar (PRS)
The Personal Readiness Seminar (PRS) is the first action point in the Marine for Life Cycle model. This interactive workshop provides an overview of resources available for continuing education, career development, and personal financial management. The Marine for Life Cycle model requires First Permanent Duty Station Marines to attend the workshop within 90 days of the arrival on the installation.
Portable Career Opportunities
Highlights the advantages of portable careers for military spouses who continually relocate and face a tight economy. A portable career is a credential recognized in multiple states and job opportunities across the country. Participants will acquire a knowledge base on high growth industries with the greatest range of portable career opportunities.
Pre–Separation Counseling Brief
The Pre-Separation Counseling Brief provides an overview of the transition process and requirements, available programs and support services, and benefits and entitlements upon separation or retirement from active military service.
During this workshop participants will learn about the different types of resumes, and drafting targeted resumes with the key components needed to get selected for an interview. The following topics will be covered: acceptable formats and design, prioritizing and highlighting key skills, creating marketable content, and general guidelines.
Senior Leadership Transition Readiness Seminar
The Senior Leadership Transition Readiness Seminar (SLTRS) provides imperative career information and accommodates the specific needs of senior military leaders. Catering to executive-level leadership and high-profile positions those senior leaders seek, the Senior Leadership TRS expands on the Department of Labor Employment Workshop (DOLEW) curriculum in a more sophisticated peer assemblage. The week-long class incorporates the Pre-Separation Counseling Brief / Core Curriculum covering benefits and entitlements upon retirement from military service. This comprehensive approach is designed to relay practical information that eases the transition from military service into the civilian world. By attending the Senior Leadership TRS, participants gain an in-depth knowledge base in the following areas: skill assessments and marketing strategies, career exploration, networking, today’s current job market, hiring and staffing challenges, resume preparation, industry standard interview attire, interview techniques and salary negotiations. AREA OF CONSIDERATION: Both enlisted and officers - ranks no lower than O-5, E-8, W4 and those within 2 years of retirement.
Social Media & Your Job Search
Social media and networking are what’s happening right now, not just in one’s personal life, but in the business world as well. Did you know that 92% of companies use social media for recruiting new potential candidates? Social media can get you and your resume through the virtual front door to the person doing the hiring. This workshop is designed to teach individuals how to establish a professional brand and the value of expanding your network through sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter.
Spouse Transition & Readiness Seminar (STARS)
The Spouse Transition and Readiness Seminar (STARS) is designed to provide military spouses with the knowledge, information, and resources associated with the Transition Readiness Seminar (TRS). This workshop will relay practical information to alleviate the stressors associated with the transition process such as effects of a career change, change or loss of military benefits and entitlements, and financial and relocation considerations.
Suiting Warriors: Suit Gifting Event
Henderson Hall’s Career Resource Management Center is hosting a “Suiting Warriors” event for transitioning military personnel and their spouses. The Suiting Warriors Foundation supports and empowers veterans transitioning to civilian life by providing them with professional attire essential for competing in today’s job market. A selection of suits and professional attire are available to those who register in advance.
Ten Steps to a Federal Job
This workshop is designed to assist individuals seeking federal employment. The following topics will be covered: starting your search for federal employment, understanding the differences between a federal resume and a private sector resume, finding the “right” key words to build your federal resume, writing the impossible KSA (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities, and Online Self Assessments).

The retirement seminar consists of the Pre-Separation Counseling Brief/Core Curriculum offered in conjunction with the Department of Labor Employment Workshop (DOLEW).

Understanding the Federal SES Process & ECQ Writing
This workshop will provide an overview of the SES application processes with federal agencies and the OPM Quality Review Board (QRB). Participants will expand their way of thinking about senior management positions in the federal government.
VA Claims Assistance
An AMVETS representative will be at Henderson Hall to review service member medical records, and provide assistance with the Department of Veterans Affairs disability compensation claims process.
Vocational Training Track
The Vocational Training Track offers a unique opportunity for participants to complete a personalized career development assessment of occupational interest and ability. This industry-standard assessment presents participants with a variety of tailored job recommendations that align with their interests and aptitudes. Participants are also guided through a variety of career consideratios, including labor market projections, education, apprenticeships, certifications, and licensure requirements.
