Information & Referral Program

The Information and Referral Program provides information and referral to resources in the military and civilian communities. Brochures, flyers, and guides are available on such topics as TRICARE (medical and dental), Military One Source, USO, active duty benefits, veterans’ benefits, commuting, food stamps, immigration, and more. Information and Referral has incorporated Relocation Assistance and information on child care. Personalized welcome aboard packages may be requested as well as information on schools, housing, Set-Aside Program, county and state resources, and military bases worldwide.

Welcome Aboard Orientation

Welcome Aboard Orientation is to inform new joins of all programs and benefits available them in the National Capital Region. Set Aside Program, Child Care Subsidy programs, Mass Transit Benefits, Single Marine Program, Marine Corps Exchange, TriCare, Life Long Learning just to name a few.

Smooth Move PCS Classes

This class is for you! You can get a bird’s eye view of your new duty station. Topics of discussion are DMO, Military OneSource, Overseas TriCare, Sponsorship, Housing, School Liaison program and budgeting for your move. Classes are conducted at Bldg. 12, Conference Rm.

Automobile Information for VA, DC, AND MD

District of Columbia: Annual inspection and registration: (202) 727-5000.


Maryland: Automobiles must pass inspection at any authorized service station. Vehicle registration is at any Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration office. Driver’s License information: (301)729-4550. County stickers are not required in Maryland.


Virginia: Annual inspection is at any authorized station. Registration is through Division of Motor Vehicles (703)761-4655. Driver’s License information: (703)761-4655. County/Municipality Registration: Various Virginia jurisdictions require registration for residents. Stickers or tags are issued upon payment of county/city property taxes. Military residents of these areas who do not claim official residency are exempt from personal property tax. However, you must obtain a valid sticker or tag for a nominal fee.

Housing Information

Marines and their families who are stationed in the National Capital Region have a variety of housing options. Government quarters are available on Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps Bases throughout the area. Be sure to ask the relocation manager about the military set aside program. YMCA Memberships and Respite Care for Eligible Military Families

The Department of Defense has partnered with the Armed Services YMCA to fund memberships at participating YMCAs throughout the United States and Puerto Rico for the following groups: Families of deployed National Guard and Reserve personnel (Army/Navy/Air Force/Marine Corps)

  • Active duty personnel and their families at independent duty stations
  • Active duty families assigned to newly established joint bases
  • Relocated spouse and family members of deployed active duty personnel

The DoD will also buy down memberships at local fitness facilities (e.g. Gold's Gym/Bally's/24 Hour Fitness, etc) for single active duty personnel at independent duty stations.

Deployed Guard and Reserve personnel and independent duty personnel with children up to age 12 of will be authorized free respite child care up to 32 hours per month, per child in YMCA facilities in states approved by DoD.

  2. Visit www.ymca.net to find a participating, local YMCA
  3. Take the eligibility form, a copy of your deployment orders, and your military ID card to your local YMCA.
